Not BPAL of the day: Gloaming

Ba-dum-CHING! Jessica who sent me this imp dug and found that this wasn't even BPAL, it's Haunt!  Awesomesauce!!!
___

I can hardly find anything about this online. Weird. Here's what it apparently used to say about it on the website when it was on the website:

Gloaming -- the time of day when the quickly darkening landscape meets with a glowing, ember sky. vanilla, dark patchouli, amber, mandarin orange and red clove.

This smells like Christmas.

It pretty much smells exactly like the description would lead you to imagine.... that almost never happens on me! But it does do that wonderful thing like Ephemera did where it smells entirely different on my wrists, in my inner elbows, on my neck, and in my cleavage. Different notes come out different places and I love that. I just really hope it sticks around longer than Ephemera. That left far too quickly.

Edited, a little later:
Call me a dirty hippie, but as this dries down the patchouli comes out more and more and makes this really special.

Goin' To Wonderland, BRB. Plus BPAL & Sweet Libertine.

I am so stupidly excited today, it's entirely unreasonable.

My husband scored us free tickets to a "regional premiere" of Alice in Wonderland tonight!!!!! AAAAHHHH!!!!!

So.... yeah. I'm just buzzing completely!!!!! I keep making random little squeaks and bounces.

I've got on all sorts of Tim Burton stripes and look very pretty indeed for all the royalty of Wonderland. Playboy Mommy and Karma have always been 2 of my very favorite Sweet Libertine colors to put together. I'm not.... you know... real big on the subtle.

[If she's a lady, I'm a vermicious knid.]

Plus, as it's in 3-D (though not red/blue, obviously) the combo made me giggle.

And also today I have put on (interestingly not Cheshire Cat, too obvious) BPAL's Oneiroi. I'm reading Sandman and it seemed right and good today.

Created to invoke the ancient Greek deities of dreams. On the shores of the ocean, somewhere in the West, they dwell behind their gates of horn and ivory. Soporific, dark and unfathomable: a somnambular blend of deep lavender, white sandalwood, jasmine, bergamot and mugwort.

I get *nothing* of the ingredients they list, weirdly. It's almost entirely ylang-ylang on me, with maybe a little bit of lavender far, far underneath as it dries, if you use your imagination. I love it. It's just not what I expected, reading about it. :D That silly Dream, always fuckin' with ya.

And now I am watching Willy Wonka (again, the Tim Burton one would be too obvious, so the original) and singing with the Oompa Loompas and trying not to explode with excitement.

 [It never bothered me.]

Also it is payday so I get to eat McDonald's while we're out!!!! EEEE!!!!

I'm a cheap date.

BPAL of the day: Baghdad

BAGHDAD
Amber, saffron and bergamot with mandarin, nutmeg, Bulgar rose, musk and sandalwood.

Another one that looks perfect on paper, and then just isn't.
It smells way too department-store-commercial-perfumey. Almost chemical-y. And it goes all soapy on me, and the bergamot goes sour. I'm very, very sad. I've never washed off a BPAL scent before, but this may be a first.

I'm going to watch Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte now, and wait for a heater-fixing-man who may not actually be coming til next week.

In other news, I have the world's cutest husband.

BPAL of the middle of the night: Centzon Totochtin

CENTZON TOTOCHTIN
The Four Hundred divine rabbits of the Aztec pantheon that preside over parties and drunkenness. Bittersweet Mexican cocoa with rum, red wine, and a scent redolent of sacrificial blood.

Holy mother of fuck, I smell like alcomaholic chocolate.
Seriously. Dry, bitter cocoa powder and rum. It's dark, very dark, and very dry. This is incredibly special.
I got an imp of this with my Peacock Queen.
If someone got me a bottle, I could die happy.
Hint.

Hint.

Plus it's named after four hundred drunken bunnies!!!!! HOW COULD THIS POSSIBLY BE ANY BETTER?!?! Immediately to the top of the list, leaving every other BPAL scent I want to own in its delicious, delicious dust.

BPAL of the day: The Peacock Queen (SQUEEE, my Valentine's present, finally!)

In dramatic contrast to the soft innocence of Snow White and the dew-kissed freshness of her sister, Rose Red, this is a blood red, voluptuous rose, velvet-petaled, at the height of bloom. Haughty and imperious, vain, yet incomparably lovely to the eye, but thick with thorns of jealousy, pride and hatred.

That is all.

BPAL of the day: Diabolical Offspring

Baby sweetness and a touch of brimstone.
I mostly wore this today in honor of one of my longest-ever-internet-besties having her baby girl yesterday. Remember how something in Black Forest turned babypowdery on me? Well, it wasn't supposed to. This one, however, is intentionally baby powder scented, and it's FABULOUS. It's a retail exclusive from Dark Delicacies. I would adore a whole bottle, like SERIOUSLY want, but I doubt it'll happen.

It smells like baby powder, clean baby smell, baby bath, baby lotion, BABIES BABIES BABIES, tasty, tasty babies, and then... just a hint, a little bit of..... something. Something slightly.... off. In the best possible way. Exactly how I'd want my own little bundle of evil glee to smell if I could ever get knocked up.

Bring on the tannis root.

BPAL of the night: La Belle Au Bois Dormant ... and Sunday Stealing FTMFW.

LA BELLE AU BOIS DORMANT
The Sleeping Beauty. A gentle, lovely scent, slightly soporific, but beautiful in its quiet repose. Plumeria and white pear, Damascus rose, tuberose, magnolia and evening dew.

[omg lookit, it's all twinkly!]

Mmmm, so I'm feeling all girly & shit tonight. Valentine's & all, I guess. I like my florals obscene and dripping, more of the O'Keefe, less of the Fragonard. I don't usually go for light, fruity ones like this, but for some reason I keep putting this one on all the time. I think it might be the magnolia. And yeah, if it's gonna be fruity-floral, it might as well be pear, which I adore. It's SUPER sweet, and I have to be in the mood for it. Which I am. And tomorrow, my husband will wake me up by kissing me and we will go watch a Disney princess movie. ::chorus of AAWWWWWWWW::

MEME TIME, BITCHES!

BPAL of the day: Black Forest

BLACK FOREST
This is the captured scent of a cold, moonless night, lost deep within the darkest wood. Haunting and desolate, this scent evokes images of fairy tale tragedy and half-remembered nightmares. Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress.

On paper, this sounds like exactly my sort of thing. In the bottle, this smells like exactly my sort of thing. But on me, some ingredient goes all baby-powdery. And that gives me a HUGE SAD. It's not prevailing, the gorgeous, thick pine is still at the top, even when it's long dry. But what should be a lovely, dark under-musk just... POOF! Baby powder. :((( I wanted this to be amazing. And it is. Just not on me.

BPAL of the... erm... night: Mania.

MANIA
The personification of insanity, Mother of Manes, Goddess of Night Spirits, Mistress of Undeath, She Who Gives Life to the Dead. With Mantus, she rules the Etruscan underworld, and her scent is roiling chaos and churning madness, but because she is the mother of the Lares, benevolent household spirits, her perfume also bears an underlying gentleness, and, like madness, a strange sweetness. Screeching white musk collides with a howl of red musk, with sharp white grapefruit and pale strawberry leaf.

ROFL. No.
Mania can be summed up nicely in one image:

HEY, KOOLAID!!!
And I have no problem with this.
It smells exactly like my favoritest drink in the universe, KoolAid & vodka.
No kidding.
I love it. Definitely want to buy a bottle in that far-off "one day..."

Also, this is how I am feeling about Farmville right now:

The end.

BPAL of the day: Ephemera.

"The scent of loss, love and the echo of time without end: sorrowful violet and chamomile with muguet, white geranium, calla lily and tea rose with a hint of autumn leaves."
Wow. This is a complicated one. It smells entirely different on my wrists as it does in the crook of my elbow, which is completely different again from down my sweater. I assume, if I could smell my own neck, it would also smell different behind my ears as it does on the nape of my neck.

I don't know about "sorrowful," but on my wrists it's definitely MOAR VIOLETS!!! Yay! My inner elbows smell like iced chamomile tea with a sprig of mint, and my cleavage smells of tea roses. This is actually kind of amazing just for the dramatic differences in where it's placed. On its own, it's not a hugely inspiring scent, but it's pleasant and pretty.... but yeah. It seems kind of magical on. I wish the muguet (aka lily of the valley) came out more, as that's one of my favorite scents ever. Hell, maybe it is there, but just on the back of my neck where I can't reach the smell of it. :D

I haven't blogged about knitting much lately. I've been doing plenty of it. Since she's already seen photos of it (CHEATER!) I may as well post the cowl I.... erm... well... I guess I made up as I went along designed for Jewles.

You can't see much of its actual properties because of the fluffy yarn, but I'm gonna do one in something smoother & see if it's as special as I think it is, once you can see the stitch definition, especially the lace of the scalloped edge, and I may very well release it as a pattern. (OMG TERRIFYING) It's amazingly cozy & versatile.

And I'm finally knitting with my Patience Ann yarn from Brooklynne, because she is havin' a CONTEST! I'm not gonna, you know, win or anything crazy like that, but I am adoring what I'm making, which is the important bit.

It's the Reclamation scarf from Glampyre Knits, and it's coming out so gorgeous. The colors in the yarn are impossible to photograph. Without a flash, it comes sort of close, hence the darkness. But it's still plummier and more grape-ity purple than that.

I'm gonna crochet her a pair of these soon, but her own contest is throwing me off my timetable. ;)

I've also still got my moebius Hoodini on the go:

And I'm still test knitting SpazzyYarn's fingerless mitts, but I keep having questions about the pattern. But hey, that's what test knitting is for. I'mma need people to test knit the cowl for me if I decide to release it. GAH, SCARY.

Anyway. Here is a very pretty Hello Kitty chainsaw and a very pretty James Dean.

Sex and Candy. And scarves.

Mmmm. One of my favorite BPALs today, Violet Ray.

So, yeah, of course as soon as I got this imp & read the tag, my mind went straight to sex. Um... that happens most of the time, actually, but yeah. That's neither here nor there. When I looked it up, saw it was from their steampunk collection, read the little blurb on the site, I was pretty much giddy with the electric steampunk sexytimes yay arm-flailing. I mean, come on, my cat is named Tesla.

VIOLET RAY
Though the doctor continued to assure her that the treatment was therapeutic, her anxiety increased. Ignoring her feeble protestations, the doctor produced a pair of glass wands, and set to work.

As the machine hummed to life, her misgivings were dissolved in a haze of unexpected pleasure. Warmth, contrasted sharply with a million white-hot pinpricks and a strangely cooling blast of electricity, surged through her thighs. The metal electrodes secured beneath her corset flared as the electrical current swelled through her nerve endings.

White mint, purple musk, violet, lilac, ylang ylang, lavender moss, and sandalwood.

So, yeah. Perfect. Also, I'm a sucker for violet. My deodorant is violet scented. My favorite candy on earth is those little old-fashioned violet pastilles with an aniseseed in the center. Violet doesn't have to be a little old lady smell, and this BPAL pretty much proves it. It's sweeeeeet. But not sickening. Just.... lifting. In fact, that's exactly why I put it on. After my little going-to-sleep-with-Greed adventure earlier, I couldn't wake up for the life of me, so I knew I had to go straight to my Violet Ray zap when I needed to get up and out. I lucked into 2 imps of this, so it'll be a little while til I need to buy a bottle, but I most assuredly will be buying one eventually. The musk is just barely enough to keep it anchored, and put over the top of slept-in-for-hours Greed, it's juuuuuust right. I can't pick out the mint consciously, but my subconscious knows it's there and perks up. Sex and candy.

And now for the scarves.

OMG *FLAAAAAIL* I GOT MY LSG TRAVELING SCARF BAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!

OMG.
Ok, so the HNT thing & being spotlight over at e[lust] & all has attracted about a zillion new people (I can see you, you know, lurkers. Statcounter ftw) so let me explain. About a year ago, an online knitting group I was a part of, Lazy, Stupid, and Godless, started a traveling scarf group for their 1-year anniversary. We are/were (I'm no longer an active member, but I'm still quite close with people I met there & am still entirely lazy, stupid, and godless, I'm in offshoot groups, and stuff, we just won't get into that drama right now because I have my scarf, I smell amazing, and the Addams Family movie is coming on, I'm not harshing my mellow) the guys & girls that want you all to know that knitting & crochet are not (as with violet scents, OMG THEME!) solely the preserve of old ladies. (Oooh! Did you know Morticia knitted in almost every episode of The Addams Family tv show?) We are rude, opinionated, often naked, intelligent, perceptive, and curse enough to make sailors run for their mommy.

Traveling scarves are this: One person knits a bit of a scarf. Approximately 6 inches in this case. They send it on to the next person in the group who knits another bit, and so on, in a circle, until the original person gets their own scarf back, with however many bits of scarf knitted by their friends, with their friends' personalities put into each section. A little notebook is included with each, to chronicle each person's thoughts, yarn choices, stitches, etc. I've been spottily blogging about the sections I've done on other people's scarves, but now I have my own back!!!!! I haven't opened the package yet. I'm savoring the antici......

....pation.

This is how mine started:
My instructions were: DO WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT. I wanted no restrictions on fiber content, colors, gauge, anything. I started mine out in the spirit I wanted it continued, I made a "magic ball" of some of my most random bits of yarn and knit my initial section with that. My only request was that there be no photos publicly uploaded til I received it. I didn't want spoilers. That would have totally ruined the INSANE AMOUNT OF EXCITEMENT I have right this second!!!!

Ok. I'm going in.

OMGOMGOMG THIS IS BEST. There is penii and boobs and rainbows and angel pubes and funfur and handspun and colors and lace and skulls and omg!!!! It's everything I dreamed of and more!!!!! And not too many ends to weave in!!!! (thanks, hoars!)

Orange penii!!! Srsly! Look closer.

BOOBS!!!

Thank you, you magnificent twatweasels. I love it. My most treasured piece of knitwear EVER.
